As the only hospital in BC and the Yukon devoted exclusively to children, almost one million kids count on BC Children’s Hospital for specialized care they often can’t receive anywhere else. While amazing progress has been made in improving children’s health care, there’s still more to do when it comes to taking on the biggest health threats facing our kids.
To help advance care for kids across the province and support experts at BC Children’s Hospital in their quest to conquer childhood illnesses, RBC held their annual Race for the Kids fundraising event in early June. The RBC Race for the Kids took place in two ways. Participants ran in their own home communities across BC through the virtual race, or joined live, in-person events in Vancouver and Victoria. Child Health BC staff took part in this special event with our own racing team, the Tier Titans. Child Health BC’s Northern Health Regional Coordinator, Erica Koopmans, was this year’s Team Captain.
Participants and supporters across the province raised a record-breaking $1,250,000 (and counting) to help solve the biggest health challenges facing kids. The funds raised will elevate critical childhood cancer programs and support children and families throughout their cancer journey, as well as enhance and develop resources focused on ensuring families in every corner of the province have access to the right tools and information to help support and strengthen the mental health and wellness of their kids.
